Introduction.
Since the advent of the i-phone, androids and tablets, the market for various apps has taken
off like a rocket. Visit Apple store or Google play and you can literally find an app for all
intents and purposes. Three years ago, I had an idea for an iOS App. This App would
encompass what DVSA call “client-cantered learning” or what ADI’s now refer to Coaching
for driver development. Indeed there are various lesson apps on junctions, roundabouts and
also a 3-D computerised animation, all looks brilliant and well thought out ideas. So what
made me spend a vast amount of budget when I could have downloaded a bought App for my
students? As I write this article, Smart Driving have launched their own iOS App for an
annual subscription of £250.00. That is half price until early May 2015 reserved exclusively
for Smart Driving members. Then John’s App will be rolled out nationally for all ADI’s to
subscribe to. As a proactive ADI I wanted to devise a different method of learning. I was
more intrigued as to how I can empower my pupils to take responsibility for their own
learning? How could I monitor that learning was taking place? How could I ensure that my
pupils would be safe and responsible drivers for life? After all, my students needed to
achieve levels 3 and 4 of the GDE (goals for driver education) matrix. The current driving
test which only reflects level 1 and 2 of the GDE Matrix. Hence, train the pupils to simply
pass the test!
The Home Page.
The Home page consists of:
Theory test.
100 DVSA Theory test questions which is of a multiple choice and fully updated. This is
plenty of question practice to safely secure a pass of a minimum mark of 43 out of 50.
Special Offers for www.drivingschoolbasildon.com
How many times have you seen ADI’s post offers on Facebook only to be drowned by other
posts appearing literally in seconds? Posts appearing on Social media is saturated and is a
mass homogenous market for information. Yet Facebook encourages you to advertise on
their site which can be expensive and time consuming. I have tried this methods and believe
me it has not generated the required yield. This icon of my App is an ideal platform to
capture my pupil’s attention for any special offers that I may have exclusively for my
customers. Also it acts as a catalyst to start a discussion on the social media and a talking
point with fellow peers who may be contemplating learning to drive?
My Routes for www.mydrivinglessonsbasildon.com
Independent driving is here to stay. At the moment it is ten minutes where pupils are
expected to follow a set of directions on their driving test done in Basildon. Before the start
of the independent drive, the pupil will set the parameters of beginning of the drive on their i
phone or android. Once stopped at a safe place, press the relevant function to end the
mapping process. So you may be wondering what good is that? The pupil can in their own
time evaluate the route for their independent driving and for the more adventurous, analyse
the route using Google Earth, which is real life three-dimensional. This could also help with
their supervised private practice.
Reflective Log for pupils of Farrah driver training.
Self – evaluation is very important in driver training. Mistakes should be interpreted as a
learning opportunity. This log enables a pupil to type in what aspects of the lesson went
well? What did not go well and how to go about improving it in the near future. It basically
encompasses the GROW MODEL, in which the pupil sets a realistic goal, explains in their
own words the reality of achieving the goal, the options available and the way forward. This
is both motivational and inspirational for the pupil.
Videos
These are videos made professionally by myself and I have covered important themes such as
manoeuvres, roundabouts and advanced driving to name a few. Past feedback has been very
positive, hence my decision to incorporate the videos into the App.
Social Media.
Here I have included the ones that I and my business participate, being Facebook, Twitter,
Google+, Pinterest and Linkedin. Social media is the best way to engage the younger
audience and for me to post pics of my pupils successful test pass.
About the Author.
I am a visionary and simply do not follow the herd of crowd unlike other ADI’s. I am always
looking for new ideas and how I can gain a competitive advantage over other driving schools.
I will be getting feedback from my pupils and if need be, revise the App and re-submit to the
Apple store and Google play store.
I also do Standards check training so visit my website
